Although the size of the human brain is relatively small, it is a complex organ. The functions of the brain has been found by the ancient Egyptians and Greeks in 400 BC. Hippocrates was the first to discover that the brain plays an important role in sensitivity and intelligence. Research on brain functioning accelerated 0-1500 AD. During this time period, some medical doctors too recognize the neurological disorders and treatments for it. In recent times the study of the brain has branched out into different areas of specialty from Neurosciences, cognitive science, psychology and behavioral science just to name a few.

Even though we have been studying the brain for decades now, we have yet to scratch the surface on all the complexities of the brain and it’s relationship to our body as well as the environment around us.

Some of the things we do know about the brain are that it is anatomically divided into three sections called the fore-brain, mid-brain and hind-brain.

At birth, the size of the brain about 400gms and then as it becomes an adult, the size increases to approximately 1400gms. The average height of an adult brain is 3.6 inches and the length is 6.3 inches. The width is 5.5 inches. The growth of nerve cells during pregnancy is 250,000 neurons per minute.

The cerebral cortex, consists of a frontal lobe, temporal lobe, parietal lobe, occipital lobe, and covers 85% of this remarkable organ. The lipid composition of the brain is 10 to 12%, 8% protein, 77% water, 1% carbohydrate, 2% salt, organic and inorganic soluble 1%.

Half of nerve cells in the brain is in the cerebellum. But cerebellum occupies only 10% of the human brain. About 1,000 ml of blood flow through the human brain every sixty seconds.

Did you know that a human brain can survive for up to 15 minutes without oxygen?

The weight of the brain is only 2% of the total body weight of individuals. However it consumes 20% of the total energy. It is believed that this energy is more than enough to illuminate a 25 watt bulb.

This super computer in our heads is capable of processing around 70,000 thoughts in a day on average.

Just from what we already know about the brain you can tell what a remarkably complex organ it is. This is one of the reason why it is essential to fuel your brain with the right fuel. One can not expect a complex organ like this to run at optimum levels whilst being fueled with junk food that is almost void any nutrition. As a rule of thumb it should be noted that the closer a food source is to it’s natural state the healthier it is for our brains and bodies.

One of the reason’s Neurolon was developed was to help people provide their brains with proper nutrition. It isn’t a coincidence that Neurolon comes highly recommended by Doctors and health professionals.
